County Of Highland }

On this 10th day of May A.D. one thousand

eight hundred and fifty five, per-

sonally appeared before me, a Justice

of the Peace within and for the county

and State aforesaid, Sarah Manker,

aged 69 years, a resident of Highland Coun-

ty, in the State of Ohio, who being duly sworn

according to law, declares that she is the

widow of William Manker, deceased, who

was a private in the company comman-

ded by Captain John Harden in the

Regiment of Militia commanded

by General Harmer in the war with

the indians on the Maumee River declared

by the United States in A.D. 1890, that

her said husband enlisted, drafted or
                         in Virginia or Penn-
volunteered at Redstone ^ on or about
  sylvania she thinks near Brownsville
A.D. 1890. for the term of twelve months, and

was honorably discharged at the place

where Cincinnatti now is in the State

of Ohio, on or about sometime in A.D.

1891 or 92.

She further states that she was mar-

ried to the said William Manker on

the 1st day of July A.D. 1817, by one John

Thomas a Justice of the peace for Cham-

paign County Ohio, and that her

name before her said marriage

was Sarah Powers, that her said

husband died at Highland County

on the 29th day April A.D. 1839, and

that she is now a widow.

She makes this declaration for the pur-

pose of obtaining the bounty land to which

she may be entitled under the act ap-

proved March 3, 1855.

She further states that her husband

received a pension for five or six years

before he died of $20. per year for his ser-

vices in said war.

acting Justice of the Peace, duly Elected, Commissioned and

qualified; that full faith and credit are due to all of

his official acts as such Justice of the Peace and

that his signature thereto is genuine.

                              PENSION OFFICE,
                              May 3 1856

Sir:
The application of Sarah Manker, Wid.
Wm. Manker
for bounty land under the act of 3d March, 1855, No. 141.735 has been
examined, and the claim suspended.
Service is alleged to have rendered in Capt. John Harden's
Va. Mil. Indian War
The Auditor reports:
                              "No rolls"
and as the third section of said act requires service to be established by record evidence,
parole testimony is inadmissible.  The claim will, therefore, remain suspended until the
service is established by record evidence, as contemplated by said act.

    Comm'r of Pensions    Sir
                    I have the honor to
enclose herewith Authority to prosecute
the suspended claim of Sarah Manker
No. 141.735 for Land act 1855.  Suspended
for the reason that there are no rolls of
Capt. John Harden Co. Va. M'a Indian war.
     I am informed that claimants hus-
band Wm. Manker was an Invalid Pen-
sioner upon the Cincinnati, Ohio roll
and died some 18 years since.  I beg
to refer to the papers upon which he
was pensioned and respectfully re-
quest a re-examination of the claim.

     On this 5th day of September 1857 person-

ally appeared before me, a Justice of the

Peace within and for the county and state

aforesaid Catharine Hook of lawful

age, a resident of the State of Ohio,

Highland County in the State of

Ohio who being duly sworn according to

law, declares that she was personally

and well acquainted with William Manker

and his wife Sarah Manker who is now

an applicant for bounty land for

the service of her husband in the war

of 1792.  She states that she lived in

the family of said William Manker

and that said William Manker resided

in Highland County Ohio; and she

states that she knows that said

William Manker was a United States

pensioner and she has seen his certificate

frequently upon which he drew his yearly

pension, sometimes he drew every six months.

She further states that she never knew

any other William Manker except

a young man of that name.  She further

states that said William Manker

lived in Highland County Ohio at

the time he drew his pension and

that he is now dead and that

said Sarah Manker that has

applied for bounty land by the

agency of Henry Rhoades is said

William Mankers widow.

said Co in said State when he died

and that he died about 18 years

since.  She also states that his said

widow Sarah Manker is yet a

resident of said County.  She further

states that she never knew any other

William Manker who lived in High-

land County.

of the Peace within and for the County and

state aforesaid William Scott of lawful

age a resident of Highland County in the

State of Ohio. who being duly sworn accor-

ding to law states that he made applica-

tion for a pension for William Manker who

then resided in Highland County Ohio,

the states that the obtained the certificate

for William Manker to draw a pension and

thinks that he drew his first pension money

which was twenty dollars, the date of the cer-

tificate was the 16th day of Nov. 1833. He states

that he never knew any other William Manker

that resided in Highland County Ohio

ached to the certificates thereof were, at the dates

of said certificates and now are acting Justices

of the Peace within and for the said county of

Highland, duly commissioned and sworn res-

pectively and that full faith and credit are

due to all of their official acts as such Jus-

tices of the Peace.
